Through a range of media, Elizabeth Crisman, Laura Hughes and Lu Zhang invite viewers to examine individual elements of larger narratives or events. Charged with meaning, the work serves as a meeting point of the unknown and the familiar, the concrete and the abstract.

Elizabeth Crisman uses X-rays of various body parts to create compositions that reference the evolution of human beings and the passage of time. Her reinterpretation of the skeletal system points to a particular moment in time, but the narrative is neither apparent nor explicit.

In her installations, Laura Hughes isolates and suspends a single moment from an unknown event. Using a variety of materials including wood, glass, steel, foam and chalk, she constructs an ambiguous and dynamic space in the gallery setting.

Lu Zhang's Opera Series features props and costumes from a traditional Chinese opera. In her pen and ink drawings, she depicts beards, hairpieces and headdresses. These objects serve as icons that reference themes of identity.

Crisman, Hughes and Zhang ask viewers to pause and consider these isolated moments. The work, now within the space of the gallery, reveals as much as it conceals, and as it changes context, gains new meaning.
