CONECTA
Features works from emerging US and Mexican Artists.

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Union Gallery at the University of Maryland presents CONECTA, an exhibition and artist collaborative project featuring emerging U.S and Mexican Artists. The exhibition, curated and organized by Jackie Milad, runs from August 21 – October 3, 2008 with a reception on September 25, 5-7PM.

The purpose of CONECTA is to give emerging artists from Sinaloa, Mexico and Baltimore/Washington D.C. the unique opportunity to collaborate in the creation of original artworks for display, as well as forge lasting international professional associations. Most of the artists are under-35 years of age and without gallery representation. For most, this will be the first time working together in an artistic collaborative effort. They have been chosen as the inaugural group due to their commitment to their artistic careers and to the promise of their work

The hope is to continue the program for years to come, creating a biennial program. Making it possible for U.S. and Mexican emerging artists to collaborate and develop international associations—a necessity for artists working today.

Artists collaborate for a week in the gallery, September 18-25. The workspace will be open to the public, allowing visitors to see the development of the artwork in real time.
Participating Artists include:

Cecilia Garcia (MX)
Jose Carlos Flores Zazueta (MX)
Bernardo Alatorre Tapia (MX)
Sasha Blanton (Baltimore, US)
Alyssa Dennis (Baltimore, US)
Juan Rojo (US/SPAIN) Current MFA, University of Maryland student
