4FRAMES
Baltimore area artists whose work is influenced by cinema and filmmaking techniques

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Union Gallery at the University of Maryland presents 4 Frames, an exhibition of works by Heather Boaz, Eric Dyer, Dee Dee Thompson, and Jesse WalkerThe exhibition, curated by Lisa Tropea and Jeff Rhodes, runs from May 31 – July 19, 1007.

4 Frames  presents video, photography, and sculpture by four Baltimore area artists whose work is influenced by cinema and filmmaking techniques.

Heather Boaz utilizes simple video techniques to animate her disappearing ink drawings.  Her videos, alluding to the gimmickry of film, simultaneously ask the viewer to suspend their disbelief while continuously showing the hand of the artist as she manipulates the ink to animate the drawings.  In his video projection, Copenhagen Cycles, Eric Dyer combines the concept of the pre-cinema zoetrope with digital video to create his animated perspective of a bicycle ride through Copenhagen. 5 of the 25 intricate “Cinetropes” that Dyer constructed to create the video will also be on display.  Dee Dee Thompson will exhibit 10 digital illustrations “collaged” from paper cutouts and digitally manipulated source materials.  Originally created as intertitles for a future film project, they read as film stills from a fantastical black and white movie.  Jesse Walker combines multiple photographs of miniature sized installations to create short cinematic narratives of bizarre characters interacting with a vast stark landscape.
