Scope of Services:

GLAO employs a wide range of legal services and options to help students resolve legal questions, problems and disputes. Our services are tailored to the individual case, taking into account the part-time nature and limited resources of our office.

In some cases we will provide information and advice to help you resolve your legal problem or dispute on your own, without the direct involvement of an attorney. In other cases our staff may become directly involved in your problem, issue, or dispute.

By contract, our attorney cannot represent students in court and cannot enter her appearance in any legal proceeding. However, where appropriate, we can provide information, advice, and guidelines to students who are litigating simple cases on their own (such as small claims actions, security deposit suits, traffic court cases, uncontested divorces, and administrative appeals from DMV and other agency decisions).

We reserve the right to decide the type and scope of services to be provided in any individual case.

Excluded Services

Some areas of practice and services are beyond the scope of our Office.  These include but are not necessarily limited to:

-Our attorney cannot represent students in court or at outside administrative hearings. However, where appropriate, we can provide out of court assistance and guidelines to students handling simple court cases on their own.

-We cannot provide emergency legal services.

-We cannot handle conflicts or potential conflicts between graduate students.

-We do not prepare paperwork or filings for immigration cases, taxes, bankruptcy, copyright and patents, articles of incorporation or most other business documents.

-We do not prepare or review complex wills.

-We do not prepare or review complex separation agreements where the parties own a home or other property or where they have substantial assets or debts.
